In a violent or potentially violent situation the ability to "mentally keep it all together" and make rational decisions is paramount in your safety.
This psychological approach to handling a potential hostile situation is taught in the first part of the program.
The second part is the realistic defence techniques taught that are custom made for the individuals own ability.
